Meeting Description:

The USC SCIMITAR (Santiago-Centred International Milieu for Interactional, Typological and Acquisitional Research) and D&I (Discourse & Identity) research groups are jointly organizing with the collaboration of AMERGIN, CLIN and MUSTE (UDC) this international workshop whose main aim is to bring together scholars and researchers who will explore and analyze discourse from different perpectives (quantitative & qualitative, linguistic, cognitive, psychological/psycholinguistic, sociolinguistic, critical, literary, cultural, filmic, semiotic, etc.). Guest speakers will provide case studies, tools and methodologies to upgrade the skills necessary to do discourse analysis in different settings and for different purposes, thereby promoting life-long learning and encouraging synergies between academics.

Paul BAKER (Lancaster Univ., UK) – Critical discourse analysis and corpus linguistics

Peter STOCKWELL (Nottingham Univ., UK) – Cognition as discourse analysis and literary exploration

Melissa MOYER (Univ. Autónoma de Barcelona) – Undertaking critical sociolinguistic research
